How Long to Beat Castlevania: Belmont's Curse? 9½–22 Hours

Quick answer: most first playthroughs take 12–20 hours. The main story to the Normal ending runs 10–15 hours. The True ending adds the Four Virtues and lands at 15–20+ hours. 100% completion takes 20–25+ hours. The demo is 15–30 minutes.

How long is Belmont's Curse?

Four post-launch reviewer playthroughs cluster into a clear picture: 10–15 hours for the main story, 12–20 hours for a normal first playthrough, and 20+ hours for 100%. The developer's own estimate is higher — Evil Empire said 20–25 hours before launch — but reviewers who tracked their runs consistently finished the critical path faster.

The shortest complete route is the Normal ending: stop the Horologium with the Shadow Arcana and beat both Dracula phases. Chasing the True ending adds the Four Virtues trials and a second Dracula clear, which is where the 15–20+ hour reports come from. Full completion adds the map, optional bosses, every Tarot card and every upgrade.

HowLongToBeat (HLTB) numbers

HowLongToBeat now has a live page for Belmont's Curse. Snapshot taken October 24, 2026:

Two things to keep in mind before you plan around these numbers. HLTB does not separate the Normal and True endings, so its Main Story figure can mean either. And the 23-submission main-story sample is small — it can move an hour or two in either direction as more players finish. Read HLTB as a second opinion on our reviewer bands, not as the definitive number.

Our bands (reviewer playthroughs)

These bands are built from published reviewer playthroughs, not from HLTB submissions — the two sources disagree slightly, and we keep both visible.

What reviewers actually reported

SourceReported length
GameRant10–12 hours on a first playthrough; 14–20 hours for a thorough first run; the author finished in "a little over 15 hours"; "upwards of 20 hours" for 100%
TheGamerAbout 12 hours to the Normal ending; 20+ hours for 100% (still cleaning up at 18 hours)
GFinity"Approximately 15 to 20 hours to beat the main story"
Gamer.org10–12 hours main story; 12–15 hours typical first playthrough; 15–20+ hours for the True ending; at least 20 hours for 100%
Evil Empire (developer, pre-launch)20–25 hours, with 100% taking longer

The spread is real, not a data error. A guided Normal-ending run and a blind completionist run are different routes through the same game.

Why the ending changes the length

  • Bad ending — not a real playthrough length. You reach the Cursed Horologium, take the left door, lose the scripted Dracula encounter, and the game returns you to just before the trap. It adds minutes, not hours. See Endings.
  • Normal ending — the shortest complete route: stop the Horologium with the Shadow Arcana and beat both Dracula phases. This is where the ~12-hour reports come from.
  • True ending — adds the Four Virtues trials (The Warrior, The Whisperer, The Judge, The Sage), the Rose's-shadow fight, and a second Dracula clear. That pushes a first completion to 15–20+ hours.
  • 100% — adds the full map, all bosses, all Tarot cards and every upgrade. Reviewers put this at 20+ hours; one unconfirmed report puts the platinum above 50 hours.

How long does 100% completion take?

At least 20 hours, and likely 20–25 for most players. TheGamer reported 20+ hours for full completion and noted the platinum unlocks only at 100%. Gamer.org also puts it at 20+ hours. A separate 50+ hour platinum report has not been corroborated — treat it as an outlier until more players finish.

What pushes a completionist run past the main story:

  • Arcana — ability-gated progression (Arcana)
  • Items and secrets — hidden pickups and optional areas across the map
  • Boss routes — which boss you take first changes your build (All Bosses in Order)
  • Endings — the Bad and Normal endings can be cleared before the True-ending steps, so completion routes stack (Endings)

Why the length is a range, not a fixed number

Playtime depends on three variables: whether you stop at the Normal ending or also complete the Four Virtues, how much of the map and optional bosses you clear, and how much the difficulty forces you to level. A guided Normal-ending run can be half the length of a blind completionist run.

Game length FAQ

Is 12–20 hours official? No. It is the reviewer-reported first-playthrough band. The only official-adjacent figure is Evil Empire's 20–25 hour estimate, which runs longer than what reviewers measured on the critical path.

Which ending is fastest? The Normal ending is the shortest complete route. The Bad ending is quicker to trigger but is a trap, not a full playthrough — the game sends you back before it.

How long is the demo? 15–30 minutes — the opening chapter. Your demo save carries over to the full game.

What does HowLongToBeat say? 9½ hours for the main story (average 10h30m, 23 submissions), 18 hours for main + sides, 22 hours for completionist, and 17h50m across all 86 players who submitted. Its main-story figure sits below our 10–15 hour band because HLTB does not separate the Normal and True endings and its sample is still small.

Does the True ending add a lot of time? Yes. The Four Virtues trials, the Rose's-shadow fight and a second Dracula clear are the main reason True-ending runs land 5+ hours above a Normal clear.

How long is 100% completion? 20–25+ hours. The map, optional bosses, every Tarot card and every upgrade are the additions; skill level moves the number more than the checklist does.
